About Me

My name is Jasmine AKA Phoenix

Hey Warriors,

I’m Phoenix, writer, mother of 3, wife, LVAD warrior, and professional charger-carrier. My heart literally runs on batteries, but my life runs on love, laughter, and a little bit of stubborn chaos.

I didn’t choose this journey. An LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) chose me. But instead of letting it define me, I decided to turn it into an adventure. Some days that means powering through the gym. Other days, it means powering through Netflix. Either way, I show up — wires, alarms, and all.

I’m raw because life with a heart pump isn’t glamorous. I’m witty because humor is survival. And I’m real because pretending otherwise is exhausting. Plus, let's be honest, I was that way before I had to "plug in".

Here, I share the messy, unfiltered truth about living with an LVAD, plus the joy, chaos, and beauty of raising kids, chasing dreams, and finding freedom in unexpected places. If my stories make you laugh, cry, or just feel a little less alone, then my job is done.

Why the illustrations and characters?

Talking about life with a heart device isn’t easy. It’s wires, alarms, risks, and realities most people can’t imagine. How do you explain that without shutting down the room or yourself?

That’s where the characters come in.

Volt, Tickr, Flo, Rooty, and Sunny aren’t just illustrations; they’re storytellers. They take the edge off a tough conversation and make the heavy stuff easier to digest. They give me a way to talk about heart health, chronic illness, and resilience without it always feeling clinical, overwhelming, or grim.

Sometimes it’s easier to let a robot, a heart, or a drop of water carry the message than to say it all myself. These characters bring a little humor, a little lightness, and a lot of honesty to a subject that can feel isolating.

They aren’t about making this journey cute, they’re about making it reachable.

Why “Warriors”?

I call us warriors because that’s exactly what we are.

Living with a heart device, chronic illness, or caregiving role is a battle, not against ourselves, but against the odds, the setbacks, and the doubt. Every day we wake up, check our batteries, face our bodies, and still choose to live, laugh, and love. That’s warrior work.

Warriors aren’t defined by the fight but by the heart they carry through it.

So when I say “Hey Warriors,” it’s not just a greeting. It’s a recognition. It’s me saying: I see you. I honor your strength. And you’re not alone in this adventure.
